Zuverlaessigkeitsgewerbe (Reliability Trade)
Unlike most trades, the security trade requires a formal reliability assessment
by the district authority BEFORE you can start working. This means you cannot
begin immediately upon registration. The authority verifies your personal
reliability, financial standing, and criminal record.
Important: Two Different Security Trades
Austria distinguishes between:
- Sicherheitsgewerbe (§94 Z.62): Guard services, personal protection, event security
- Sicherheitstechnik (§94 Z.63): Alarm systems, surveillance cameras, access control
These are separate qualifications. Many companies hold both.
Employee Requirements
Since 2019, all security employees must complete a mandatory basic training (Sachkunde) before starting work. Background checks are required for all personnel.
